Level Sink Needlefish
The level sink needlefish is the foundation to this technique allowing for a natural imitation of various prey species which do not, as many lure designs might make you believe, spend all their time twitching, wiggling, spitting, popping or rattling but rather suspend themselves patiently awaiting the ocean currents to deliver their nutrition. From 75mm to 160mm long in a range of weights from 10g to 60g. Perfect for all needlefish techniques, slow or fast retrieve and they cast like a dream. There is a size and sink rate to suit the majority of shore based bass fishing conditions encountered in the U.K.
Stubby Needlefish
These offer a different shorter more compact profile than the long slim standard needle design. Their shape has the added benefit of increased casting range as well as being particularly responsive to angler input via the rod tip and being fished as a twitch bait. This has proved very productive when employed during daylight hours.
Pencil Poppers
These provide a simple, slender profile that cast extremely well. They sink backwards at a 45 degree angle at rest. With the slightest retrieve they rise swiftly to the surface where they can be made to walk the dog or can be slashed across the top to attract some attention. Alternatively they can be slowly waked with an enticing wobble. They have often produceced at times when needles have had a lull in activity.
About CWOLF Lures
My name is Charles Nelson. I was born in 1963 and I have been a fishing addict as far back as I can remember. My earliest memories involved a stick, a piece of string, kitchen scraps and crayfish as well as family holidays to Anglesey where the sea fishing bug was caught. By the time I reached the age of 11 I had a serious issue with being able to concentrate on anything that did not involve fishing and it was at this age that all my dreams came true and my parents bought a small fishery in Sussex. In my back garden I had an array of quary from carp, tench and rudd as well as the mainstay of the fishery; stocked brown and rainbow trout. It was at this stage that my first bit of tackle DIY began, with an attempt at tying flies from materials kindly donated by the various pets and livestock we had accumulated. Catching a trout on my very first scruffily tied buzzer introduced me to a whole new level of fishing satisfaction. A good few years on and having fished for numerous species both at home and abroad I am now very lucky to have settled with my family in Pembrokeshire, a bass fishing paradise. Having been intrigued by the well documented exploits of the Jersey Bass Guides. In particular their adaptation of American, striped bass, needlefish techniques for use when targeting the bass on this side of the Atlantic, I began to think that making a few of my own needlefish would add a further dimension to my lure fishing and keep the bass fishing mind whirring when the bass were not about. After reading one of Henry Gilbey's blog posts suggesting the need for a "hard bodied slightly longer casting, Wave Worm sized lure, the design parameters for my first needlefish were set. I have made and tested many different variations of needlefish over the past few years and along the way have given many to fishing friends that have shown an interest. It is their feedback on top of my own successes with these lures that has led me to start offering some of the most productive versions for sale.
